So, this is it. At long last, the day has arrived. My salesman sent a text this morning. "The truck will be here sometime before 9 p.m." Cool. So I boogied on over to Selman Chevy and arrived at 8:05 p.m.
"Has the truck arrived yet," I'm asking. The guy says he doesn't know and we hop on the golf cart to have a look out back. Nothing. No new arrivals.
Ok, it's only 8:20. Still time. I hang out with my wife and Rod (ICU). We shoot the breeze, and wander over to where the delivery will be. It's now 8:30. Still no truck.
Then, my wife, who's watching the other corner of the lot, sees the truck. It pulls up an stops in front. They tell him to take the cars around the side. I see two Corvettes. One with red calipers. The other with YELLOW!!!!! It's mine!!!!!
It's 8:40 p.m. Murphy is dead. Nothing is spoiling this event. I watch the truck pull around the corner off Chapman and onto Tustin Ave. The driver stops in the middle of the street and starts unloading cars. First off, the Vette with red calipers.
Then some trucks. And some other stuff I'm not interested in. Then the upper level, more trucks. The trailer is finally unloaded, and he gets to my car, which is tucked up against the cab, protected from everything. Even though it's not a long journey from Mira Loma to Orange, it still feels good to see my new baby snuggled in its white jammies, tucked in behind the cab of the carrier.
Finally, he starts my car. Drives it carefully off the carrier. Then at an angle across the low curbing and into the parking lot. He stops, and the Selman guy hops in and drives the car behind the fence and locks the gate. He's tired. Long day. He wants to get home.
So there is sits, locked up safely for the night, wearing its white onesy. My wife says "white jammies." I agree. The car looks fabulous in its bedtime getup. Oh, that's for protection. Wife says they're jammies. Happy wife, happy life. They're jammies.
Rod was there, watching it all unfold. So cool. Big thanks, Rod, for coming over. It was super cool having you there. Fun to watch the driver unload the truck. This certainly wasn't his first rodeo. Dude had mad skills.
Tomorrow, at 2 p.m. we're all getting together for the big shindig at Selman. DaveH, Rod (ICU LQQKIN) and Mark (Ret9580) will be there. We're going to line up the cars and get a group shot. It will be a most fabulous day. Lots of photos, and we'll post a bunch here.
Now off to bed. Tomorrow is the HUGE day!
